According to John Benson, in Frontline Combat EC Archive, Volume 1, Kurtzman wrote three of the four stories in this issue, but he did not specify which one that Kurtzman did not write. That story was turned over to another writer under Bill Gaines' direction.

T/S Dave Goglia (driver); PFC Allen Burke (machine gunner, death); PFC Flicky Ford (assistant gunner); T/S Lustraw 'Strat' Coleman (driver and gunner); Buck Sergeant John McMullin (commander); Communist soldiers (villains, many die)
As some American soldier watch a tiny beetle struggling in the water, they are reminded that the enemy is teeming in the hills and they need to get a move on. So they load up in their "Bouncing Bertha": a Patton M-46 tank and head out. Unfortunately, they get stuck along the way with the enemy closing in, who soon blows up the tank. Just then, U.S. aircraft attack while a helicopter lands and takes on four of the five tank crew. One, Allen Burke, is then left to face the enemy, who are angry because the other four got away.

U.S. Army Sergeant; a new recruit (death); U.S. soldiers [Powers (death); Stofka (death); Bryant Kitchens (death); rest un-named]
The new recruits were obviously nervous, awaiting the order from the Sergeant to go over the top toward the Jerries. One in particular stuck close to the Sergeant, who promised to "show him the ropes", when all of a sudden, a German machine gun opened up on them, causing the friendly forces to retreat. The young recruit, wounded, was hung up in the barbed wire and screaming for help, and two soldiers advanced to help....and were killed, and then another. The Sergeant did the only thing he could: he mercifully shot the recruit.

Jack Williams (expert swimmer and naval explosive expert); five unnamed naval divers
Jack Williams, a member of the Navy's Underwater Demolition Team, and whose sub had just surfaced a mile off shore near a Japanese held Pacific Island, had a reconnaissance job to do. The information he and the five others on his team would gather would help with the planning of the impending invasion of the island by American forces. He was using the location of the planet Venus to chart his course, never knowing that "star" was actually a ray of light emanating from a Japanese radio shack high up in the mountains!

Captain Mike Wallace (death)
Captain Wallace watched as a Russian MIG fighter he had fired on spiraled into the Han River, unaware that he had a superficial wound in his left arm. Suddenly, a storm erupted, causing his Panther jet to lose altitude. His only alternative was to eject himself from the aircraft, but his wounded left arm prevented him from moving the hood of the aircraft in a downward position. Tragically, all he could do now was to watch in horror his plane plunging earthward!

Union soldiers [Alabama; rest unnamed] (many die); General George Pickett (villain); Pickett's men (villains, many die)
On the 3rd day of battle at Gettysburg, General Pickett and his army of 14,000 men attack the Union position and all hell breaks loose. One Union soldier, called Alabama (because he came from that state), is in the thick of battle when a southern officer approaches him, and Alabama cuts him down, learning too later after the battle that he had killed his own father!
