Japanese soldiers occupying Kokopo during World War II endure a daily toil of inaction until U.S. forces suddenly arrive. Rather than pull back and stage guerilla tactics, the soldiers are ordered to launch a suicide attack. One group does not immediately engage and is later dealt with by the army, its officers put to death and the remaining soldiers sent in a second suicide attack which leaves all of them dead.
