The Beyonder arrives on Earth. He desires knowledge and experience. Professor X sends out a distress call to all heroes. Cap, Iron Man, the X-Men and the New Mutants descend on L.A. The Beyonder gives a scriptwriter powers which he uses to start destroying society. The heroes arrive and mistake Thundersword for the Beyonder and battle him. Beyonder appears in the form of the Molecule Man. He causes Magik to become Darkchilde and the New Mutants teleport to Limbo. Lila Cheney teleports the X-Men out. Thundersword loses his powers. The Beyonder makes himself invisible and follows Cap.

Shadowcat uses Illyana's Soulsword to transform her from the Darkchilde back to her normal human form, manifesting Magik's armor in the process. They are secretly spied on by the Beyonder but Rachel senses him and tries to communicate. Dazzler and Shadowcat infiltrate the Gladiators but are captured by the one who is actually controlling events in the arena, the former New Mutant, Karma.

The Beyonder begins to experience life as a human but finds it difficult. He seeks out Spider-Man for guidance but the most that Peter can't do much and recommends Reed Richards. Beyonder seeks out Reed who has saw his wife possessed by Malice and battled the Hate Monger so he doesn't have much time for him. Beyonder meets a homeless lady who points him in the direction of heroes for hire. Luke Cage, in a rage, tells the Beyonder that life is all about money so the Beyonder turns their office building into gold. Spidey arrives to witness a speechless Luke and Danny as the Beyonder blinks away.

The Beyonder falls under the influence of mob boss and pimp Vinnie Corbo. He does well in the mob life until Vinnie tells him there is nothing more that he can teach him and encourages the Beyonder to reach his full potential. The Beyonder does so, first taking over the Kingpin's operations, then the U.S and then the entire world. Realizing that worship without free will does not give him satisfaction, the Beyonder releases the world from his control. When he visits Avengers mansion and is told by Jarvis that the heroes are unavailable, he decides to seek out Daredevil for help.

Max Hammer has been turned into a monster by Bruce Banner's gamma cure and he lashes out at the Hulk. During the battle, the Hulk begins to revert to his mindless, brutish state as he tries his best to kill Hammer. Rom shows up looking for Dire Wraiths and finds only victims of the gamma cure quickly dying. Rom uses his neutralizer to heal the victims and remove the gamma radiation from their cells. He tries the same trick on the Hulk but finds even his powerful alien weapon is not strong enough to cure the jade giant.

Deep in the Latverian Embassy, Doom has captured the FF and is trying to draw his real body together using mystic energies that span the cosmos. When this power fails, Doom brings the Beyonder to restore his old body but the Beyonder isn't about to do any favors for someone who once stole his power. Reed talks some sense into the demigod and the Beyonder splits Doom from Norman McArthur and sends the villain away to fight in the first Secret War.
