Arak; Satyricus; Maximus; Dyanna
Arak has regained his wits just in time to avoid gutting poor Satyricus, but he has bloodied his ax with the satyr's ichor. And that's what Maximus wanted all along. By touching the ax to the golden bough in Artemis' forest temple, he has gained control over the priestesses (except Dyanna). He orders them to attack Arak in their lioness forms, and Dyanna urges Arak to kill them to release them from Maximus' hold. In the struggle, the golden bough is destroyed and Maximus' head is lopped off by Arak.

Valda the Iron Maiden
Valda; Malagigi; Baledor
Valda and Malagigi are Baledor's captives. Valda agrees to serve Baledor if she can have the barest opportunity to rescue her old friend's life; he has been left on low land, a victim for the incoming tide. Valda frantically rides out and barely gets Malagigi back to the stronghold in time to avoid the onrushing waters. True to his word, Baledor spares Malagigi's life, but locks him in the dungeon. Then, he brainwashes Valda into being his loyal servant, using her as one of his armored lackeys until she eventually encounters Arak, who frees both her and Malagigi.
