Synopsis:
Roland is sent out by his father, along with Cuthbert and Alain, to help in the Affiliation's struggle against Farson, the Good Man. Their trip leads to a chance encounter with a failed gunslinger. Meanwhile, Marten bids farewell to Gilead, and the Crimson King sends a gift to an old hag who has plans for the recently orphaned Susan Delgado.
