Shang-Chi is a master of martial arts and the son of Fu Manchu, a Chinese mandarin and scientist. Fu Manchu sends Shang-Chi to England in order to assassinate the evil Dr. Petrie for the common good. Shang-Chi reluctantly agrees, but after the deed is done he is confronted by Sir Denis Nayland Smith, a former British intelligence officer, who tells him the truth about Fu Manchu; that he is a nearly immortal evil mastermind. Shang-Chi travels back to his father's secret lair in New York and renounces him. Fu Manchu swears to kill Shang-Chi for his defiance.

Shang-Chi finds an ally in Fu Manchu's old enemy Sir Denis Nayland Smith and learns that Fu Manchu is smuggling a secret cargo into Florida. The cargo consists of gasoline laced with mimosa, a sedative intended to pacify the population and facilitate Fu Manchu's take-over of the United States. Shang-Chi is captured and foced to fight the doped-up dacoit Satma, but in the end he is able to escape and destroy the gasoline shipment.

Demmy Marston holds Shang-Chi responsible for the death of his girlfriend at the hands of Korain and puts a price on his head. Shang-Chi is caught in an aquatic park and brought before Marston, who starts beating him to death. Marston is interrupted by Fu Manchu and his men and killed with a snake. Fu Manchu says that he alone decides when Shang-Chi dies, but it is not today.
