Garry Trudeau was assisted by inker Don Carlton (Alter 1990, 66). Newspaper publication of Carlton’s work began “in early December [1971]”; Carlton also lettered the strip for the first few weeks that he inked it, as well as for a later, decades-long run (Walker 2010, 30–31). GCD’s inks and letters credits reflect that the time period covered by this volume appears to begin during the early period in which Trudeau inked and lettered, and end during the “few weeks” of Carlton’s initial inking and lettering stint.
