Chief Lumbowo's people are terrorized by crocodiles at Lake Chad. Paul joins a hunt for the man-killing crocodile believing the villagers will accept his farming advice sooner if the hunt is a success. The crocodile destroys the party's canoe and the hunters are stranded on an island in the lake. Lassie, Timmy, Ruth, and the villagers rescue the hunters the following morning but a severe storm overturns their canoes. Lassie saves Timmy from drowning. The party again leaves the island but the crocodile is spotted. Paul slays the animal with a rifle shot. In the village, a celebration is held.
