An Air Force plane crashes on Spire Peak. Corey leads a rescue crew into the mountains to search for the plane's only passenger, twelve-year-old Crown Prince Carlo of Lataria. The boy is seeking aslyum in the United States following a revolution in his homeland. Jake and Perry Condon find the Prince and hold him for ransom. Lassie defeats the Condons and leads the boy to safety.

Timber wolves terrorize the countryside but their leader, The Gray Shadow, eludes hunters. In the mountains, Dirk Ebsen and his son exhaust themselves battling the wolves while protecting their sheep. When Corey arrives, he sends the two home and remains with the flock. That night, the pack strikes again. Lassie and The Gray Shadow do battle, and, when Corey has a clear shot, he slays The Gray Shadow.
