Sis is reading an Archie comic book on page 3 and plugs Archie, Pep, Wilbur, and Laugh Comics. Sis uses the "pickle in the middle and the mustard on top" catch phrase from Mr. Kitzel, a character on the Jack Benny radio program.
The splash panel has a large logo and Katy in a red gown with an all-black background and looks much like a Spirit splash panel, particularly the January 19, 1947 edition. The splash panel gown is credited to 12 readers: Louis Jacobs (Buffalo, N.Y.), Lynn Hurley (Roselle Park, N.Y.), Shirley Lee O'Brien (Amelia, Ohio), Norma Jean Williams (Modesto, Calif.), Don (no last name) (Baldwin Park, Calif.), Jean Frances Wyatt (Fort Worth, Texas), Mirian Rabbins (Forrest City, Calif.), Natlie Davies (S. Gardner, Mass), Joan Young (Miami, Fla.), Ruth Lember (Lynn, Mass.), Rae Jeanne Featherston (Denver, Colo.), and June Fletcher (Greenville, S.C.)
Other fashions are by Shirley Sidwell (Menlo Park, Calif.), Jeanne Griede (Long Beach, N.Y.), Pauline Liss (Jersey City, N.J.), Nona Harding (Durdam, N.C.), Marilyn Mills (Cleveland, Ohio), Maxine Shaneyfelt, (Black Diamond, Wash.), and Elsie Crane (Miami, Fla.).
