Betty Cooper; Jughead Jones; Hot Dog; a hermit; Veronica Lodge; Archie Andrews; the local sheriff; the Leaf Monster
The shadow belongs to an old hermit that warns Jughead and Betty of the leaf monster. As Archie and Veronica are having some private time, Archie sees the Leaf Monster out the window. As he and Veronica give chase, the sheriff shows up and warns the teens about the crazy monsters that have shown up since the school's opening. The hermit disappears, and the gang develops some odd, new phrases like "Jinkies!" and "Zoinks!". Even Hot Dog starts to talk, saying phrases like "RUH-ROH!"
