Synopsis: Jan feels Diane has an advantage in a piano competition because Diane's father is a mine superintendent and hers is just a miner. Jan stirs up the miners and they demand fair play; the board members are intimidated and unjustly award Jan the prize. Mine inspector Chris, who Jan is interested in, is upset at Jan’s attitude. Jan becomes jealous of Chris’s friendship with Diane and is envious when Diane goes on a concert tour. The miners take up a collection to finance a tour by Jan but she admits she isn’t talented enough and won’t take their money. Chris and Jan reconcile.

Synopsis: Ronnie moves to be near her boyfriend Jim, who has just been drafted. Jim helps pay her hotel bills, but is unable to spend much time with her. She begins dating George, a captain. Jim jealously confronts them and is confined to quarters, but leaves to see Ronnie and is arrested. George blames Ronnie: “If you really loved him, you would have waited until he returned to you. Instead, you came here to mess up his life.” Before she goes home, Ronnie apologizes to Jim. He says “there’s still a chance for us” if she just waits for him.
