Betty’s father Mike runs a logging camp and zealously prevents the workers from approaching Betty. However, she and newcomer Larry fall in love, but when her father threatens to kill him, Betty tells Larry she doesn’t care for him. They reconcile but are caught by her father; after a titanic fight, Larry beats Mike, then saves the other man's life when some logs break loose. Mike changes his mind and agrees to let Betty marry Larry.

Nurse Celia works with Dr. Peter in a malaria control station in the Philippines. Peter’s wife Elaine is also there: she hates the living conditions but says her husband is her life. Celia and Peter have an affair and Elaine finds out. After Elaine dies from a snakebite, Peter feels guilty and later dies of typhus himself. Celia is left alone, “suffering the punishment of a love thief!”

Although she has an engineering degree, Barbara’s father and foreman Red won’t allow her to enter a tunnel they are digging. Barbara has herself appointed a city building inspector and goes into the tunnel. A blow-out causes the tunnel to flood, but Red rescues Barbara. Barbara apologizes to Red and her father and promises never to enter the tunnel again. She and Red also fall in love.
