Waitress Helen falls in love with milkman Barry, but refuses to marry him until they have saved enough money. Barry’s truck is hijacked by a robber who leaves his loot behind when he flees. Helen tells Barry she’ll turn the $20,000 in to the police, but changes her mind, tempted by the cash. Barry breaks up with her as a result. Helen eventually comes to understand that the money cannot make her happy; she will hand it over to the authorities and hope for a reconciliation with Barry.

Jean gets a job as a secretary in Bart’s glass factory. Her fiancé Larry had been fired from the company and, before he died, told Jean that Bart had stolen his ideas. Bart falls in love with Jean. She uses her access to sabotage a new glassmaking process and Bart stands to lose his business as a result. Informed by her brother that it was Larry who defrauded Bart and not the other way around, Jean confesses to her scheme and gives Bart her savings to rescue the company. Bart forgives Jean and they reconcile.

After her father suffers an accident that leaves him disabled, his trucking company nearly goes broke. His daughter Lila takes over, driving the sole remaining truck. Ray, a former worker, offers to rejoin the firm and help, but Lila is suspicious. She and Ray fall in love, but when she finds paperwork indicating Ray will become a partner in the revived company, she accuses him of treachery. Lila’s father says it was he who insisted Ray become a partner. Ray and Lila are reunited.
