Joan and Bob are engaged, but can’t wed until he gets a raise, which is contingent on his company receiving a state contract. Joan romances Tom, who works for a rival firm, so she can find out what their bid will be. Without revealing what she's done, Joan convinces Bob to lower his bid and his company wins. Tom realizes he’s been tricked. Bob learns the truth and breaks up with Joan. Joan confesses everything and since Bob’s company will get the contract anyway because Tom’s company cuts corners, Bob takes Joan back.

Hypochondriac Lorna is particularly worried about a polio “epidemic.” Despite her imaginary aches and pains Lorna dates grammar school teacher Ted, but he’s upset when she recoils from one of his students who recovered from polio. Lorna and Ted go on a picnic with some students but she panics and drives off, stranding them. Ted breaks up with her. Lorna realizes she has to change her life and dedicates herself to volunteering at the childrens’ ward at the hospital. Ted shows up and they reconcile.

Cathy teaches at Martha's acting school and hopes to become a partner. She accepts Mark as a student even though he has no talent because she likes his looks. They begin to date, and Cathy can't bear to tell Mark he's a failure as an actor. He even quits his job to study full-time. Cathy gets producer Max to pretend to hire Mark as an understudy, but when the lead actor is injured, Max refuses to let Mark go on and explains Cathy's deception. Mark leaves. Cathy confesses to Martha and Martha reunites her with Mark.
