Disclose Notes: Per the book "The Charlton Companion" by Jon B. Cooke (TwoMorrows Publishing, 2022 p.186) "By 1960, Bob Gustafson settled in for a long stay writing and penciling Beetle Bailey comic books (with inks by [Mort] Walker studio stalwart Frank Johnson) even as it passed from Dell to Gold Key to King Comics and then Charlton."

By 1975, Greg Walker (son of Beetle Bailey creator Mort Walker) began working on the Beetle Bailey title, taking over from Gustafson completely around October 1976 "...with some of Gustafson's stories continuing to be used after that". Gustafson moved over to the newspaper strip writing for and otherwise assisting Mort Walker. (ibid. p. 186)

King Comics house ad for its plastic-bagged "King Paks", which offered three 12-cent comic books for 29¢ for a savings of seven-cents per pack. Middle right page of centerfold.

Comics offered were Blondie, Beetle Bailey, Popeye, Flash Gordon, The Phantom, and Mandrake the Magician.

This would seem to be a lesser-known forerunner of the Whitman plastic bagged three-packs of the 1970s and 1980s, and similar to the "DC Comicpacs" of 1962 which offered a less enticing four 12-cent comic books for 47¢. https://tiahblog.blogspot.com/2019/08/adventures-in-comic-boxing-dcs-got-it.html

The cover of Popeye the Sailor (King Features, 1966 Series) #85 (April 1967) is seen in the photograph of the King Paks display. Art is by Bud Sagendorf.

The ad closes with "The World's Greatest Comics at the World's Best Price!".
