Dialogue and situations are "Maltese-ian"! Michael Maltese writes the Pink Panther as if he were Snagglepuss, a Hanna-Barbera TV character he wrote in the early 1960s, and throws in some elements from cartoons he's written.

Page 8, panel 1: "Oops! I put the silly thing in reverse!", paraphrasing Daffy Duck in "Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2th Century" (1953).

Page 3, panel 7: "He'll never die! He'll just 'UG' away!", paraphrasing Detective Snooper in Snooper and Blabber "Slippery Glass Slipper" (1959).

Page 3, panel 8: "Bad Guys Territory Good Guys Keep Out!", paraphrasing a similar warning sign (and concept) in Quick Draw McGraw "Bad Guys Disguise" (1959).
