Dire Wraiths (villains)
A strange black disc appears in the sky and stabs a beam directly through the sun. Rom investigates and finds it has been created by Dire Wraith sorcerers. Rom drives off the Wraiths but the damage has already been done as a large black spot is slowly spreading across the sun. Rom learns from Cindy, a little girl whose mind has been touched by a dying Wraith, that the aliens are using the black beam as a conduit with which they are attracting their own world to merge with Earth. Gyrich claims that the only man capable of duplicating Rom's neutralizer and halting Wraith-World refuses to help.

Continued from Rom Annual (Marvel, 1982 series) #3; Gyrich appears here after encountering Wraiths in Uncanny X-Men, the (Marvel, 1981 series) #185.

Readers with attention to more detail will discover the new black-costumed Spider-Man, recently featured in Secret Wars, in the third panel of page 21, almost hidden by Colossus. Ditko had kept his promise not to draw the hero again... in his classic costume.
