Also widely known as "The Screaming Cowboy", this story is among the best-known and most popular of Carl Barks' Donald Duck ten-pagers from Walt Disney's Comics and Stories.

Barks is not credited for lettering.

The published credits in this issue say: "Originally printed June, 1951". That is false, as Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #137 (the original source of this story) has a cover date of February, 1952. That would more than likely mean it was released in December, 1951.

Confusion on the part of the editors may have resulted from this note, attached to the story in WDC&S #137: "Art submitted on June 21, 1951. Synopsis by Michael Barrier from 'Carl Barks and the Art of the Comic Book' (M. Lilien, 1982)." June, 1951 would appear to be the date of submission, not the date of publication.

This story is reminiscent of a Floyd Gottfredson newspaper strip continuity, with Mickey as a plucky little scrapper, and uses the character of "Professor Dustibones" from the Gottfredson continuity "Land of Long Ago" (1940-1941). In this story, Professor Dustibones is depicted as a "human", as opposed to his original rendering as a more typical "Disney-dogface" character.

The published credit "Production by Larry Mayer" likely refers to remounting and panel resizing.

For this reprint, the story is remounted to "three tiers per page", vs. the "one tier per page" format of the original printing. One reprint-page equals three original-pages, making the reprinted version ten pages, vs. the thirty pages of the original printing.

Based on a side-by-side scan of both versions, every panel of the original is reproduced in the reprint.
