Fujikawa Electronics in Japan was able to get Red Ronin from S.H.I.E.L.D and finish repairing it, even modifying its look to make it look more human. Bastion (who's trying to bring Operation Zero Tolerance to Japan) is planning on working with the government to use Red Ronin against any mutant uprising. Silver Samurai and his Clan Yashida, along with The Hand, both want the robot. Wolverine busts Sunfire out of prison and the two of them, along with Yukio, try to stop the new and improved Red Ronin which gets deployed by Fujikawa. Wolverine enters the robot and shuts it down from the inside.

Cyberneticist Tsu Fwon had modified Red Ronin to operate without a pilot and was responsible for launching it. After Red Ronin is defeated, he's executed by the Fujikawa Corporation.

Red Ronin previously appeared in Solo Avengers #15 (1989) and would return in New Thunderbolts #13 (December 2005). While he does appear in one panel in Avengers/JLA #4 (2004) as one of the entities storming the villains stronghold, only his knee is shown. He also appears in Earth X #12 (2000), Exiles #67-#68 (September-October 2005), and Mega Morphs #2-#3 (October-November 2005), but these appearances are from alternate time lines.

Red Ronin was originally built to fight Godzilla back in his own series in 1977. This is mentioned by one of the characters who states that the robot was built to "safeguard the world from attacks against a time-lost dinosaur".
