Notes:
Ayers & James was a family-owned import company, established sometime before 1916. By the 1930s, its imports included US periodicals. When imports of foreign publications were restricted during World War II, Ayers & James published books and periodicals locally. It published its first comics soon after 1940, including reprints from Quality, Disney and newspaper strips, and some original Australian comics. In 1947, Ayers & James commenced Classics Illustrated reprints, which continued until 1953. After that time, Ayers & James imported UK editions (published by Thorpe & Porter), many specifically printed for Australian distribution with Ayers & James advertising for back issues. Magazine Management purchased the company sometime after 1960, although at that time it was not publishing comics. Magazine Management later used the Ayers & James brand as a book imprint.
