Originally serialized in the 1980s as Kamui Gaiden (カムイ外伝) in Shogakukan's Big Comic magazine. This is not the 1960s version from Garo magazine.

Ryan Holmberg revealed in a 11/24/21 TCJ article that this series was actually drawn by Shirato's brother Tetsuji, uncredited.

The story contents of these books were republished in 1998 as The Legend of Kamui: Perfect Collection.
