Pictured to the right is the standard navigation bar on every page in the XOWComics.com for when you are not logged into your free account. All of the textual items in the main navigation bar are "rollover menus", menus that drop down displaying their contents when you point your mouse at them. And, all items in the main navigation bar have rollover help that is displayed when pointing at the item.
The standard navigation options for Search , My Account , Help, Site Map and Location crumbs are available on the first line of the main navigation bar.
The Search interface encompasses the main portion of the first line in the navigation bar. The details, and help, for the functionality of searching is detailed here on a separate help page . Some basic details and explanation is available by clicking directly on the Search link in the navigation bar.
The My Account menu contains links to all of the pages you can currently navigate to in the My Account section of the XOWComics.com site. Obviously, the contents of this menu will change depending on whether you are logged into your free XOWComics.com account or not.
The Help menu containing links to all of the available help pages in the XOWComics.com site. The menu items are organized hierarhically reflecting the organization of the help pages into categories, roughly equivalent to the different areas of the XOWComics.com site itself (well, as much as it reasonably makes sense to have done).
The Site Map menu contains a hierarchical list of links to all of the relatively static pages in the XOWComics.com site. This is commonly the informational, contact, news, version history, and links sections of the site, among others. The site map page itself contains a complete list of every page in the XOWComics.com site. It is worth looking through the Site Map at least once to familiarize yourself with all that is available in the XOWComics.com site. And, check back to the page occasionally as more content and functionality is always being added to the XOWComics.com site.
On the second line of the navigation bar, the Browse menu contains the minimal tools needed to just browse all of the data in the XOWComics.com site. It functions very similarly to the Search interface, except there is obviously no need in the Search to choose what level in the data hierarchy to begin browsing. Click on the Browse link itself to go to a page containing more details about browsing the comics data in the XOWComics.com site.
The Location menu contains what is commonly known online as "site crumbs". This is a linked listing of hierarchical pages within the XOWComics.com site from the home page to the current page you are viewing. This gives you quick and easy access to see not only where you are at any time in relation to other pages in the XOWComics.com site, but you can also navigate directly to any of those pages. Basically, your trail of "crumbs" that led you from "home" to where you are now...
The second line of main navigation bar begins with the Like interface to Facebook for XOWComics.com (not pictured to the right), followed by linked icons to the XOWComics.com pages on Facebook and Twitter. This is followed by the Browse interface items used for browsing the data within the XOWComics.com site. Finally, there are linked icons to various Contact Us pages in the site. Each of these icon links will open a new window, allowing you to keep open the current page you are currently viewing.
The pencils icon is a link to the Apply to be an Editor page (only shown if you are not already a volunteer editor for XOWComics.com). The heart is a link to the "Review the Site" contact us form. The question box is a link to the "Ask for Support" contact us form. And, the bug is a link to the "Report a Bug" contact us form.
Since each of these links opens a new browser window when clicked, you can quickly and easily provide us with feedback of any kind about the site; the current page you are on will automatically be filled in to the appropriate area on the form when you follow these links (and your username and email address). We value your feedback so we have automated as much of this as possible for you to make it as easy as can be to give us the information that proves to be so helpful to all of us.
When logged into your free XOWComics.com account, the navigation bar provides more functionality and tools for you. An example of the navigation bar when logged into your account is pictured to the right.
The second line of the navigation bar now contains the Favorites menu. This menu contains the ordered listing as links of all of your favorite pages. At the bottom of the menu, there are also links to manage your favorite pages and to add the current page to the end of the list of your favorite pages. For Listing pages, there is also an item at the bottom of this menu for Remember Sort; view the Change Account Options page for information about this functionality. Again, like all items on the navigation bar, this is available on any page in the XOWComics.com site.
