Disclose Notes: Per Carl Gafford, he came up with the idea for this issue to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Harry Houdini's death.

Michael Uslan remembers it differently, saying that he proposed the idea to Sol Harrison of reprting the Gray Morrow Zatanna stories and then put it together. According to him, the Flash story was originally supposed to be a reprint of the first Zatanna story but was replaced when DC thought they should have an A-list superhero in the book.
