Chris practices with his Darkhawk powers, the family tries to manage without the father, and Chris is angry with his friends. Darkhawk walks into a trap and fights Bazin's men and Hobgoblin with Spiderman's help. Darkhawk tries to kill Hobgoblin and Spider-Man tells him off. At home, Chris gets a phone call warning him to "Beware the curse of the Darkhawk".

Darkhawk breaks into Ryker's island Prison to learn about his father from Louis McPhee and discovers he has a zoom focus power. The Powell family continues to deteriorate and Chris gets a second warning about the 'Curse of the Darkhawk"". Darkhawk learns he can see in the dark. Fights Savage Steel who is shocked when he sees beneath Darkhawk's helmet. Savage Steel, who secretly works with the cops, kills Bazin's gang. Darkhawk removes his mask and is terrified by what he sees in the mirror.

Darkhawk destroys his room after seeing his face in the mirror. A hitman is after Chris' mother. St. Johnny says he knew the last Darkhawk and that the face under the mask is the face we all deserve. Chris is shot in the leg as he foils hit on his mother. Portal, who looks similar to Darkhawk with the amulet ripped out of the chest, attacks him after he changes to Darkhawk. Guards from the Vault watch Portal in the hospital.

Darkhawk invades Phillipe Bazin's home but cannot bring himself to kill Bazin after he sees his family. The U-FOES attack just as Captain America arrives at the hospital to provide Avengers Clearance for Portal to be taken to the Vault and Daredevil, who was walking by the hospital joins the battle. When Vapor tries to suffocate him, Darkhawk realizes he does not need to breathe. The heroes win but Portal goes to another dimension. Later, Chris Powell gets another note saying, "Beware the Curse of the Darkhawk".

Darkhawk stops a drug deal near Midtown High School. Chris finds his father's journal. Bazin controls the the super villain Lodestone with a pain-inducing device. The drug dealers return with firepower and Headset is hit in the crossfire. Darkhawk changes to Chris and tries to use the amulet for the dying Headset to no avail. Lodestone attacks Chris while the unconscious Headset has the amulet.
