Synopsis:
As scientists come increasingly to understand the atom, Albert Einstein warns President Roosevelt that a weapon of vast magnitude could be created. Under pressure of war, Roosevelt authorizes the secret Manhattan Project, headed by General Groves and Dr. Oppenheimer, to develop such weapons. Their atomic bombs are so terrible that the very prospect of their use stirs fierce controversy, but bombs are dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Their dreadful effect forces Japanese surrender, but unanticipated radiation effects plague survivors. The world now lives under threat of more bombs.
