Synopsis: The voyagers have made their way to China, where they dock at a port filled with dragon-prowed ships. Just as they arrive, though, a real dragon bursts from the water and begins laying waste to all around it. Arak manages to drive it off, but he ends up having to be rescued by his old "friend" Haakon, now the Byzantine ambassador! During trade negotiations, the very undiplomatic Haakon offers to kill the dragon, offending the Chinese authorities (and causing Haakon no little embarrassment). Later, Arak and Valda are accosted by an armed woman demanding to meet Arak, the "dragon-slayer."

Synopsis: An old man and his daughter try to recruit Arak to kill the river dragon terrorizing the city, claiming it is not a true dragon, but a creature of evil. Arak says he'll think about it, angering the daughter with his reticence. Later, at a feast, the dragon attacks once again and Malagigi has to call upon his sorcery to drive it away. But, Malagigi was also able to discern who summoned the dragon: none other than Angelica, servant of the Serpent Lord! Arak knows he'll have to kill the beast, now.

With these relics, she plans to reanimate the saint and force him to give her unspeakable power.
