Synopsis: Wendy leaves her boring hometown to visit her wealthy Aunt Martha and cousin Cobina in New York. Cobina takes Wendy on a date with two older men, Westerton and Burton. Wendy fends off Burton’s lecherous advances by clubbing him over the head. Thinking she's killed him, Wendy tries to flee on a tramp steamer but police detective Rick stops her: he says Burton is not dead and she won’t face any charges. Wendy thinks Rick has romantic possibilities.

Synopsis: Kathy teaches at the state agricultural college. She turns down the advances of Blakesly, but finds herself attracted to Ned, a farmer who won a special scholarship to the school. Ned departs, but when he later discovers the cure for a crop blight, he says Kathy’s influence was vital to his success. Ned returns to the college and punches Blakesly, then reunites with Kathy.

Carol and mine worker Jeff fall in love, but she still feels obliged to marry Clyde. When Jeff is trapped in a mine accident, Carol shames Clyde into risking his life to save him. Carol and Jeff admit their love, while Clyde will be consoled by Sybil, the mine owner’s daughter.
