Carlson can be recognised by his horses with rather long, narrow tapering heads, like a sea horse, and especially his way of drawing the legs of horses. On panel 4 on page 1, notice the outstretched frontlegs the brown horse, almost standing like a rocking horse. He often draw the legs of running horses stretched out in front, and then always as if the upper outline is slightly concave. This leg rendering is unique to Carlson, and can also be found in his many Rocky Lane stories. He drew Buck Jones in about 25 issues of Master Comics.
