Maybe pencil artwork by Pete Alvarado, as he began in 1950 on Gene, after two years on Panhandle Pete. Or he may be credited with too much.

Gaylord Du Bois's Account Books Sorted by Title compiled from the original account books by Randall W. Scott states: "Gene Autry in Bullet Proof. 16p. For Gene Autry Comics, January issue. Sent May 10, 1949."

Gene Autry
Gene Autry; Champion [Champ] (horse); Beth Daly; Uncle Lonesome; Jenny (burro); Jack (burro); Latigo; Gotch
Gene tracks train robbers into the desert and a dead-end. He finds Beth seeking her prospector uncle Lonesome. Bandits wound Gene and steal Champ; Beth nurses him. They follow her uncle's burro, survive a sandstorm, and find water. At Lonesome's cabin, they find a corpse and bury it. Lonesome returns and explains it was a badman he killed before. Wounded, he went for a doc. He struck uranium, and will sell the claim and retire. He leads Gene to the hide-out over the cliff, and Gene heads down. Lonesome saves Gene in the nick of time. Gene muses if not for Beth he'd not have closed the case.
