Disclose Notes: Compilation of the self-published work of Colin Upton selected by Editor Roberta Gregory.

Colin Upton discovered the small press comics movement during the 1980s, an anarchic sub-culture of cartoonists who happily rejected the need for publishers or editors to create and distribute their comics themselves. Much of this issue was produced as a small mini-comics (small, cheap photocopied 8 - 12 page pamphlets) and sent through the mail as a major method of distribution for trade or sale.

Happy Ned cheerfully spreads the good word with a good deed and a smile. Or automatic weapons fire if that doesn't work. This dark humoured satire foreshadowed the violence of the religious right years before it was fashionable.

In this funny animal political satire, Socialist Turtle is a Stalinist with a thin shell, battling for control of a featureless plain against capitalists, Trotsykites and class traitors. Inspired by infighting amongst various communist factions in the eighties, in particular the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada.
