Charley says he’ll send Ruth’s parents photos of her assignation unless she plays along. Ruth spends time “in strange hotel rooms in the mad, sensuous embraces of strange men!” One day, Homer shows up as a “client”; he punches Charley and rescues Ruth. They go home, get married and have a child.

She decides to marry him and avenge herself on the family. After the wedding, they confront the Kahns: when Bill learns Roberta was Frank’s lover and later sees Frank kissing her, Bill leaves. Roberta realizes she actually loves Bill. When Bill is injured in a car accident, Roberta helps nurse him back to health and they are reconciled.

Grace asks to be sent to Korea and Pete is assigned as her escort. He shows her how devastated the country is and how the Koreans are suffering; he introduces her to the soldiers as well. When Pete is reported to be wounded, Grace realizes she loves him. It was a hoax to break through her hardboiled shell. Grace and Pete embrace.
