Betsy Ames; Ellen Ames; Mrs. Ames; Nick Layton
18-year-old Betsy dates new neighbour Nick, but her older sister Ellen sees them and reports to their mother, who thinks Betsy is too young to go steady. In revenge, Betsy says Ellen is going steady with Freddy, and their mother forbids that relationship as well. Betsy sees Ellen with Nick and is angry. Ellen confesses to her sister that she and Freddy have been married for months and Ellen is pregnant; she was only “dating” Nick to get out of the house and see Freddy. Betsy says their mother was married at 19, so Ellen can tell the truth. Everyone is happy.
