Her parole officer is understanding, especially when Walt appears and says he intends to marry Alice.

However, Bruce discovers housekeeper Mrs. Parsons has been slowly poisoning Carol: he turns her over to the police and ejects his free-loading relatives, so he and Carol can be together, in love.
