An odd sort of story, giving Dinky an essentially "new cast" (including Chesty the bulldog from the Heckle and Jeckle feature), as opposed to his usual antics with Rudy Rooster, yet retaining the familiar farm setting with the presence of Farmer Gray. It's also more of an "unfolding character piece" of different (and sometimes disjointed) events, rather than a typical outing that builds toward a gag-climax. Given its generally softer tone, and less strident approach to gags, one might say this was more of a "text story" presented as a "comic story".

This story features lots of cartoon slapstick violence, in blackout gag style, all of it perpetrated upon the fox while Dinky remains oblivious to the deservedly painful events going on around him.

The fake ancient treasure map the fox allows Dinky to find says, at its bottom, "Copyright 1953 [the then-current year] Made in Japan".

And while Dinky passes each of the "landmarks" that are drawn on the map, he encounters them in a different order than which they appear on the map. Even the "destination-spot-marking X" (that all treasure maps invariably have) is found in the opposite direction from the final landmark vs. the way it is seen on the map. Are all of these inconsistencies an intentional gag on the part of those clever "Terry-Tooners" to see if we're paying attention? ...Or is it just a pre-fannish-culture case of "make it up as we go along, 'cause no one'll ever look back a few pages at the map"? You decide.
