When Ellen's father falls ill, Roger’s family learns the truth and he rejects her. Ellen reconciles with Eddie and they’ll live on his salary.

Pearl accepts a job from her Aunt Jane teaching kindergarten, although it will mean separating from her childhood sweetheart Warren. However, Warren says he doesn’t love Pearl. Pearl turns down the job and decides to win Warren’s heart. Warren dates Connie so Pearl goes out with Lew to make him jealous, but Warren only wishes her luck. Pearl tells Connie that she’s secretly engaged to Warren, which is a lie, and Warren soon finds out. Pearl accepts her aunt’s job offer. She realises she was like a selfish child herself. Lew shows up and Pearl realises she loves him.

On the flight back to New York, Ronny meets ad man Vic and they fall in love.
