Originally a story titled "Morning of the Magician" by Rick Veitch and Michael Zulli was to appear in this issue, but Jenette Kahn decided not to publish that story though the cover was completed and 19 of 24 story pages were fully pencilled. The story was to have Swamp Thing, Etrigan the Demon, and the Golden Gladiator interacting with Jesus Christ and the cover was to depict Swamp Thing as the cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified. Veitch, who planned to end his tenure on the strip with the birth of Swamp Thing's baby in #92 and turn the series over to Neil Gaiman and Jamie Delano, resigned in response to the story's rejection. (See Amazing Heroes #164 and 171 for more information.)
