Reporter Jack writes a story about aspiring actress Deena’s attempted suicide, although she claims it was an accident. Feeling guilty, Jack impersonates his paper’s drama critic and gets Deena a spot in a new show. Although he’s fired as a result, Deena is a success. Jack is hired by a rival newspaper and marries Deena, but begins to take bribes from producers for good reviews and she divorces him. Jack participates heroically in the war and afterward decides to teach in a small college rather than continue in the newspaper business. Deena gives up her performing career to accompany him.
