Notes:
Story is told in comics format, with word balloons, but narration between panels is typeset. All the lettering has been redone since the original publication; the font used the balloons is now the one developed by Jason Arthur and used by him in Thompson's Magic Trixie stories and elsewhere, but Arthur is not credited in this book.
Bug-A-Boo is referred to only as the Monster in the Basement in this story. He is first called by name in Scary Godmother: Bloody Valentine #1 (Feb. 1998).
The "ashcan" preview Scary Godmother and Friends #[nn] was available at conventions in 1997 prior to the first Scary Godmother storybook. While not widely distributed, it features the actual first appearance of Scary Godmother, Hannah Marie, and other characters. It was reprinted in the Scary Godmother: Spooktakular Stories trade paperback (Aug. 2004).
