Kaänga and the district commissioner seek the Bolton safari. They find the party's doctor and press on. At the safari camp, Professor Bolton is ill and the natives believe that he is possessed. The natives assemble to drive out the Bolton party. Kaänga soon learns that the doctor, Norris, has betrayed the party and convinced the natives of the evil possession of Bolton in order to make a claim on the lost Bankhead Diamond Mine discovered by the party. Kaänga, Zulu, and Marmo defeat the natives and force a confession from Norris who is turned over to the commissioner.

A fire flares -- a water-hole dries up --
A gohali maddened bull attacks Madu, who has set himself up as lord of the water hole. The wounded Madu flees and is attacked by Simba who drives him from the jungle. Simba then returns to the water hole and kills the bull.

A strange, unnatural silence overhung the jungle.
Logo, witch doctor of the N'kolis, takes the reins of power from the late chief's daughter, Meme. When Tabu attempts to restore Meme to her cheiftanship, Logo dismisses Tabu's illusions for what they are. Tabu then lures a gorilla to the village and where it attacks Logo and carries him off into the jungle. The tribe celebrates the return of Meme to power.

Somewhere in the N'Tali lands, ancient temple treasures have been unearthed.
The commissioner sends Camilla and small party to confirm the discovery of some ancient temple treasures. He sends a runner after the party departs to warn them of white criminals operating in the area. The criminals, Morgan's gang, intercept the runner and take his letter, re-writing it so that Camilla will believe that the commissioner wants them on the expedition. When Morgan attempts to kill Camilla, she realizes her mistake in accepting them. She exposes their plot to steal the treasures and assures the local natives that the criminals will be punished by white man's law.
