When the Mexican villagers fear the hills too much to help Jarvis build a dam, he calls on his friend Sid to help him win them over. Sid convinces two villagers to work with him, but they soon run in fear after encountering a spirit of death. Ringo refuses to believe it and returns to uncover a plot to hide and steal gold from the hills.

The signature on this story is dated 1965. Throughout this translation, Ringo's name is spelt "Sid" and the word "dam" is spelt "damn". There are other spelling and gramatical errors in the translation.

In the middle of the desert, Syd meets the mysterious Kim. He takes her to Crossing, where she falsely accuses Lou Harrison of cheating at cards to get revenge for ther father's death. Ringo intervenes, but Kim escapes and is subsequently kidnapped. Lou's not the villain Kim thinks -- but there are real thugs around.
