It all began at a party when this girl read my palm…
Gypsy-girl Rachel predicts the number three will be important for Lucy, both good and bad. So Rachel picks the third boy to dance with—Tony. She then becomes obsessed with threes, and has a nightmare in which Tony is attacked. When they meet the next day at bus stop three, Lucy's panic causes Tony to move, just before a bus hits the sign he was leaning on. Tony admits that the gypsy curse was a stunt to meet Lucy and the girl is his sister.

Debbie Martin is in her first term at Grange Art College, originally an early Victorian Manor.
Miss Ewen dismisses Debbie's paintings as lacking imagination. Sitting on the college grounds, Bill tries to cheer her up. Later, Debbie sees someone watching her and follows him. He mysteriously disappears, but Debbie sees him again later. He enters a permanently locked room in the college, where Debbie sees a blank canvas. And then he disappears again. Debbie is inspired and paints about the encounter, leading to an art prize. Later she gets into the room again to find it empty. It belonged to a young artist who died.

Tony Jackson, if I ever get down from this I'll never speak to you again!
Glenda does stunts for Radio Hexford, inspired by her love for broadcaster Tony Jackson. Tony just loves her providing two minute spots on the news. A potholing trip becomes life-threatening when heavy rains hit and Glenda blurts out that she loves Tony into the microphone. After Glenda is saved, Tony says nothing about her profession of love and Glenda decides she will just focus on her job. The next stunt is standing on a plane while it flies. Glenda is surprised when Tony comes too—along with Reverend Wright to do Britain's first mid-air marriage.
