Union General Sigel (death); Grandpa (death)
With states having seceded from the Union, it is now time for people to decide which side they favor: North or South. The St. Louis militia is housed at Camp Jackson, but Union troops under General Sigel attempt to force them out. That is not to the liking of an elderly man everyone calls Grandpa, and he decides to shoot one of the Yanks down, and now the stage has been set for war.

Frontline Combat
Union captain (death); three Union soldiers [aka the Three Musketeers] (one dies);
As Union forces go marching confidently out of Washington D.C., each soldier reminds himself that he has enlisted only for 3 months, and the war should be over within 60 days -- or so they think. The rebels have other ideas. Three Union soldiers become, in their minds, the Three Musketeers and vow to see the battle out together. Reality sets in once one of them falls; this will be a long war.
