Notable story arcs include: Li'l Abner goes to visit Aunt Bessie in New York; Li'l Abner is kidnapped; the Scraggs feud with the Yokums, and torment Daisy Mae; Daisy Mae wants to marry Li'l Abner; Li'l Abner goes to elementary school; greedy relatives fight for custody of Mary Ann Astorbux; Li'l Abner dresses in drag and takes it on the lam with Mary Ann; Hannibal Hoops woos Daisy Mae; Marryin' Sam drums up business; Mammy and Pappy save Li'l Abner from matrimony.

According to Schreiner's essay, confirmed by Catherine Capp Halberstadt's introduction, Catherine Capp assisted on the strip during 1934-1935. She indicated that she provided backgrounds, particularly for outdoor scenes in the hills, for the strip's first six to twelve months. She also lettered early strips. Schreiner reports that Moe Leff became assistant in 1935.

Signature: Al Capp signed his name in several ways including: Al Capp; Al. Capp; Al. G. Capp; Al G. Capp; Al G Capp; and C—. Although normally signed in cursive, the strip was on occasion signed by printing.
