Arak, Son of Thunder
Arak; Satyricus
Arak and Satyricus witness raiders murdering a group of monks. They kill the raiders, but too late to save the holy men. However, they witness a group of Kers (flying creatures) claiming the souls of the monks, as is their wont. Arak manages to anger one, though, and it threatens future harm. Arak and Satyricus (in disguise) soon arrive at the monastery, where they hear of a sighting of three naked maidens deep in the caves. The monks ask Arak to investigate, and the vengeful Ker soon knocks him into a deep chasm, where Arak finds carvings displaying his own birth as son to the God of thunder.

Valda the Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden [Valda]; Carolus Magnus; Queen Fastrada; Pepin; Carlo; Lui; Huns; Rinaldo
Carolus Magnus is surprised when Avar Huns, their longtime enemies, offer a peace offering of a helmet adorned with golden antlers. It is supposed to aid him in hunting, and the king and his three sons decide to try it out. Valda senses treachery, though, and it soon becomes obvious that black magic is afoot. The helmet turns the king into a stag, and Valda has to save him from his own sons. Finally, she chops off the still-golden antlers, returning the king to human form. Enraged, Carolus Magnus decides it's time for a military campaign against the Avars.
