Synopsis: Arak and friends are sailing on a sea of sand and making good time. But, then the sand becomes a tumble of churning boulders, and their wooden ship is smashed. Luckily, the previous owners of the ship brought along a solid stone lifeboat, so the journey continues. Finally, the "sea" ends at a waterfall (real water; not stones, thankfully). The travelers now find themselves in the catacombs under White Cathay. When they storm out of a hidden door into Angelica's very stronghold, she's able to capture them all in a net. She plans to sacrifice them in front of her subjects to solidify her rule.

Synopsis: While taking shelter from the cold in the palace chapel, Valda and Pip are amazed to be attacked by the ghost of Pip's grandfather. He demands that Pip overthrow Carolus Magnus and claim the crown. But, Valda banishes the spirit with its own weapon. She knew it couldn't be the old king's ghost, because the actual man was short and this spirit was tall. The conspirators that raised this false spirit are then captured, but the leader commits suicide. Meanwhile, Carolus Magnus arrives in search of Pip, and begs forgiveness from Pip for banishing him just for trying to please his father.
