Scratch is given $10,000 to pay off the debts that his boss, Mr. Keats, owes to Bob Miller, but, greedily, he decides to stop into a gambling club to use that money to win even more. When he loses the entire bankroll, Scratch decides to leave town and he stays at Rickie Woods' home on false pretenses. But when the Heap appears at Rickie's home, Scratch decides to capture or kill the beast, collect the $20,000 reward and pay back Keats.
