For the purposes of the GCD, the IPC master publisher begins in 1959 when The Mirror Group purchases AP (The Amalgamated Press), publishers of titles like Knockout, Sun, Comet, Cowboy Picture Story, Thriller Picture Library, and Super Detective Library. In 1961 The Mirror Group took over Longacre Press (previously Odhams Press), including their long-running title Eagle. In 1963, the Mirror Group was renamed International Publishing Corporation Ltd (IPC). The Fleetway name, a holdover from AP, was still used to identify the comics magazine publishing arm of IPC, although some comics were published in IPC's name.
In 1987, IPC sold its comics division to Robert Maxwell, who continued to publish the comics under the Fleetway name.
